                              The Tapestry of My Life
                                            BY: Kenneth Testa

The needle began to move, in a soft fluid motion. A pale skin colored yarn followed it and began a complicated weave. It did not stop until 9 months later. The weave resembled a human like shape and just then the needle started to wiggle and burrow itself underneath the patterns. It created what looked to be a limb and a foot. Another limb and foot appeared and then grew along with the rest of the human. The head was formed and then the arms. A belly button came and then the facial features. So many colors and shades were woven. It was truly a work of art. There is nothing like the growth of a child.

Constantly moving, the needle wove the skin of the child, never stopping constantly changing the color of the yarn.  The boy’s name was Kenny Testa; he had big brown eyes, curly black hair, and an extremely high metabolism. He wore shorts and a T-shirt usually, sometimes jeans.  He had a sister who wore long pants and jeans.  She had the longest brown hair and was a year and two weeks younger than Kenny.  One of the most exiting moments in Kenny’s life was the first time he went to Disney land. He was fascinated and loved the characters that he got the chance to meet in real life. They all were so tall and wore funny outfits with bright colors on them and buttons. The trip home from Disney was very interesting for young Kenneth.  He had never seen so many clouds in his life. They made him wonder what it would be like if he could fly anytime he wanted. It was getting dark and the sun went down as the sky grew darker and darker, changing colors every minute.

Kenny had a pretty normal childhood until when he was about six and he found out some news. His dad sat down with him and they talked. The news wasn’t the most pleasing. He had found out that his Mother had brain cancer. He did not know much about cancer except that it was a deadly disease. His mom needed an operation and she also needed prayers.  Every night God saw Kenny kneeling by his bed and chatting with God. Kenny hoped and prayed that the surgery would go well. The day finally came that Kenny and Nina got to see their mother.

On the way to the hospital I had my fingers crossed. I knew that there was an evil ball of yarn in my mother’s head and that it was the surgeon’s jobs to get rid of it. At the hospital Kenny’s mother lay there asleep in her bed. She had a large white band over her head, it looked uncomfortable. She must have heard them because she woke up and slowly looked over towards them. Kenny was happy to see that she was ok. The doctor showed my father the report. Every strand of yarn in Kenny’s body was happy, the operation went great. The mass percentage of the tumor was removed. Everything was going to be ok. Weaving through Kenny’s body the needle got stronger and stronger each day. The next obstacle in Kenny’s life was school. Were on earth was he going to go for high school. He had only one option, Cab Calloway School of the Arts. He had to try out and there were only twenty spots open. He would have to try hard. He was nervous and went out to audition.

He found himself in front of a Macintosh Computer. He looked at the sheet of paper the teacher had given him and started typing. He finished after and hour and then knew he had to wait. Eventually the letter would come. All of the words he typed would pay off. The letter did come. He opened it and knew he got in. He had been accepted into Cab.

The weaves continued to create different patterns and shapes as Kenny continued his life at Cab. His mom’s doing well, he was accepted into the school of the arts, and he visited the most popular vacation spot in Florida.  Kenny would continue his life and face future obstacles and possibly overcome fears. Everything depends on the needle.
